Introduction

Sofia Magdalena ensemble was founded in 1991.

The ensemble consists of 12 singers (SATB) and the members are semi-professional singers (e.g. having music education background and/or several years studies from classical singing.)

Repertoire

Our repertoire consists of music from different centuries with the emphasis being on production of J.S Bach. Also a cappella songs as well as choral works with orchestra are performed regurarly. Some examples are listed below:

- Dietrich Buxtehude: Membra Jesu Nostri
- J. S. Bach: St. Matthew’s passion
- J. Rutter: Requiem
- Several cantatas from J.S. Bach

Recordings

"Aurinkomme ylösnousi" (Our sun resurrected) was recorded in September 2003 and it consists of religious songs. Picture of the CD can be seen below.

The most new CD consisting of Christmas carols was recorded in June 2005 and it was published in November 2005. A special edition of this CD was also made for a christmas carols singalong event that was part of the Oulu 400 jubilee year.
